A working team led by Zhang Shujun, deputy chief of the Foreign Liaison Department of the Xinjiang International Expo Administration, launched the promotion for the Fifth China-Eurasia Expo in Italy and Germany between May 29 and June 2, 2016. The team visited Italy’s Confapi, CONFCOMMERCIA, the Rome Branch of the Bank of China and Deutsch-Chinesische Wirtschaftsvereinigung (DCW) E.V, signed cooperation agreement with DCW and held a themed symposium on the Fifth China-Eurasia Expo in Hanover. During the visit, the working team exchanged views with Sun Congbin, Councilor General of China in Hamburg, and Tao Bailiang, Economic and Commercial Councilor, on encouraging the Germany side to take part in the fifth session of the Expo.
During the symposium, the working team introduced the functions of the China-Eurasia Expo as the platform for summit diplomacy, constructing Silk Road Economic Belt, pushing forward economic and trade cooperation between Xinjiang and surrounding countries (regions) and displaying the image of Xinjiang. Centering on the location, resource and policy advantage of Xinjiang, the team introduced the opportunities in Xinjiang under the background of constructing the Silk Road Economic Belt and elaborated Xinjiang’s strategy of forging the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt. The team stressed on the acceleration of the logistics construction of Xinjiang and the operation of China Railway Express. At the same time, the working team invited the Italian side to make effective use of the platform of the China-Eurasia Expo to actively organize Italian companies to participate in the event.
Fernando Ippoliti, International Office of Confapi, said although the Confapi had yet formed close exchange and cooperation ties with Xinjiang of China, it has felt the status of Xinjiang as a core area in China’s “Road and Belt” initiative and the key role of platform of the Expo after watching the video about the China-Eurasia Expo and the on-site promotion by the team. The Confapi is in charge of the organization and implementation of the overseas involvement and economic exchanges of its small- and medium-sized enterprises. Fernando said, in recent years, the small- and medium-sized enterprises in Italy were keen on the exploration of the market in the western part of China. It said it hoped the working team would provide detail information on preferential policies on exhibition booth, transportation, accommodation and the transaction volumes and numbers of visitors of the previous sessions. The Confapi will help encourage its member enterprises to actively participate in the China-Eurasia Expo through its domestic channels.
Antonella Fortezza, Capo di Gabinetto of CONFCOMMERCIA, introduced related situation of the Confcommercia to the working team and expressed its care to the China-Eurasia Expo and Xinjiang. Antonella said that the Confcommercia is to jointly launch the “Hello China” project with the Italian Embassy in China, aiming to promote the tourism of the country and attract more Chinese tourists to Italy. Antonella said the Confcommercia would actively consider to jointly set up the image show with its embassy in China at the fifth session of the Expo, which was proposed by the working team, to demonstrate its tourist and investment environment.
Wang Xiufu, head of the Roman Branch of the Bank of China, briefed the mutual direction investment of the Sino-Italian enterprises to the working team as well as its efforts on coordinating related institutions in recent two years to launch matching meetings for Chinese and Italian enterprises at the Investment & Trade Forum for Cooperation between East & West China held in Xi’an and the event in Anhui.
During the visit in Germany, the delegation signed with Silke Besser, Manager of DCW, a cooperation agreement between the China-Eurasia Expo and DCW, witnessed by Sun Congbin, Councilor General of the Chinese Counsellor General in Hamburg and Tao Bailiang, the Economic and Commercial Councilor. During the talks, the delegation stressed on the promotion of the opportunities in Xinjiang under the background of the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt. It elaborated the strategy of forging the “core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt” proposed by Xinjiang and gave promotion to the new mission of the China-Eurasia Expo during the process of the construction of “five centers” and sincerely invited the DCW to organize powerful enterprises to participate in the forums and exhibition of the Expo. The secretariat will do its best to provide convenience and support for the Germany companies to participate in the exhibition and forums.
Silke Besser, Manager of DCW, expressed her gratitude to the working team to participate in the Germany-China Logistics Seminar and promote the China-Eurasia Expo in Germany. At the same time, she said she hoped to establish long-term cooperation ties with the Secretariat of the China-Eurasia Expo through the cooperation agreement and make use of the platform of the Expo to help SMEs in Germany conduct exchanges and cooperation with the western provinces in China in the key fields including service industry and logistics.
Sun Congbin and Tao Bailiang briefed the status of Xinjiang in the construction of the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the location advantage that the Expo covers a population of 1.5 billion in the surrounding regions during the talks. They also gave active appraisal for the China Railway Express cargo train operating between Xinjiang and Duisburger Port and Hamburg Port. They said they will actively help to encourage German enterprises to participate in the exhibition and forums.
During the stay in Hamburg, the working team participated in the Germany-China Logistics Seminar hosted by the DCW, and set up a booth to help promote the China-Eurasia Expo. The team delivered pamphlets to the participating enterprises and talked with a dozen of German logistics companies including the Deutsche Bahn AG, pushing them to make use of the platform of the China-Eurasia Expo and the China Railway Express channel to discover new opportunities for the cooperation between Germany and Western provinces of China and Middle Asia countries.
During the visit in Germany, the working team held a Germany Exquisite Products Symposium of the Fifth China-Eurasia Expo in Hanover. The team elaborated the functions of platform and window of the Expo, the overseas exquisite products and national pavilion day of the previous sessions to the participating companies, and notified the situation of the domestic and overseas investment attraction and exhibition recruitment and the China Railway Express starting from Urumqi, Xinjiang.
Through the previous and on-site promotions, the participating enterprises gained more sufficient understanding for the great potential and business opportunities of Xinjiang and affirmed they would participate in the Germany Exquisite Products Pavilion display at the Fifth China-Eurasia Expo. During the symposium, the participating enterprises showed high enthusiasm and held exchanges with the working team on the demand of booth, booth construction, exhibit transport, the Customs procedures, inspection and quarantine, and storage. The symposium lasted for nearly two and a half hours with actual results.
