The five-day training session for volunteers for the 5th China-Eurasia Expo kicked off at Xinjiang University on Aug 24. Members from the executive committee of the expo and leaders of Xinjiang University attended the session’s opening ceremony.
At the ceremony, Meng Fanli, a member of the standing committee of the Party committee and vice president of Xinjiang University, said that the volunteer training will be well prepared, and called for young college students in Xinjiang to show their “youth, vigor, and courage” to guests from home and abroad. Wu Xiaobin, deputy director of the Comprehensive Department of the Executive Committee of the expo, warmly welcomed all the volunteers. He also serves as deputy director of the expo’s Forum and Special Events Department and as director of the Planning and Development Department of Xinjiang International Expo Administration. Wu said that the training can improve the service levels of the young volunteers and demonstrate the good image of the youth of Xinjiang. It also plays a very important role in promoting the all-around volunteer service for the 5th China-Eurasia Expo. The opening ceremony marked both the start of volunteer training and the beginning of an upbeat 5th China-Eurasia Expo, according to Wu, who added that volunteers should abide by the rules and regulations, work hard, be high in spirits, and be willing to collaborate to achieve success.
The volunteer representative said that they will promote volunteerism, and be dedicated, cooperative and coordinated to contribute to the expo. Before training started, the volunteers made a vow as a group and were presented with a flag by officials to recognize their service.
The volunteer work of the 5th China-Eurasia Expo centers around the “New Edition of the China-Eurasia Expo”. The volunteers aim to “Service to China-Eurasia Expo, Promote Silk Road Construction”. For the first time, volunteer work is combined with college-level training so that good educational resources are integrated with the event. High standards are set for the recruitment, training, management and evaluation of volunteers to intensify their effectiveness. A volunteer column has been opened at the official website, and volunteerism is promoted on other media, such as WeChat. Volunteers for the first time vowed as a group to implement the spirit of volunteerism and spread modern culture, which increases confidence in a successful China-Eurasia Expo.
Altogether, 1,200 volunteers were recruited from Xinjiang University, Xinjiang Normal University, Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics and Urumqi Vocational University. The volunteers will be assigned to eight departments and serve 65 posts. Two hundred volunteers have already been through the training session and have started their work. The other 1,000 will start to serve by Sept 1 after the training.
